Advanced Optical Performance
A state-of-the-art optical design with two AA (advanced aspherical) elements and three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements accurately reproduces point light sources with high contrast and an absolute minimum of sagittal flare for crisp, clear images of challenging subjects such as night scenes and starry skies. Two AA (Advanced Aspherical) Lens Element
The 20mm f/1.8 G lens employs two precision AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements to maximize resolution and effectively compensates for field curvature and astigmatism that can be problematic in wide-angle lenses, achieving high corner-to-corner resolution even with the narrow depth-of-field produced at the lens’s maximum f/1.8 aperture.
Three ED Glass Elements
Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements significantly reducing flare and ghosting by taking axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration (due to differences in magnification) out of the picture. Resolution and bokeh is maximized while leaving precisely rendered edges with no fringing or unnatural coloration right out to the image edges.
f/1.8 Maximum Aperture

Flare and ghosting are often hard to avoid when shooting landscapes or outdoor scenes in strong sunlight with a wide-angle lens. Sony’s original Nano Anti-reflective Coating technology effectively suppresses internal reflections so that high-contrast, clear images can be captured even in difficult light.
