    Helios-44M history:
In terms of mass, this version is not inferior to Helios-44-2, and was used as a standard lens on all Zenith cameras with a push or jump aperture drive. The order of the chief engineer of KMZ on preparation for the serial production of the lens was signed in February 1972. The first batches were intended for the Zenit-EM camera. The letter "M" in the name stands for a jumping ("blinking" or "blinking") diaphragm [1]. In versions of the 44M lens, the diaphragm consists of 8 blades, in subsequent modifications 44M-4-7 their number was reduced to 6. After the appearance of the following models of photographic equipment with a drive for such a diaphragm, for example, Zenit-TTL and Zenit-19, the production of the lens deployed at two more plants in Minsk and Valdai. The widespread use of multi-coated lenses in the world prompted designers to introduce it on Soviet lenses as well. The first in the series to receive such enlightenment in 1987 was the MC Helios-44M-4, which was launched at KMZ simultaneously with the bayonet MC Helios-44K-4.
