which works particularly well for for sci-fi and action films!

58/2 HELIOS 44m4
Best vintage lens: small, cheap, far from perfect, but incredible in so many ways.
There are many versions of this lens with the 44m4 model being the most common.
All versions though were based on the amazing Zeiss’s Biotar 58mm, which explains why Helios 58mm is so well regarded.
It’s always the first lens I recommend to anyone wishing to try out vintage lenses.
It pretty much has it all including the beautiful dreamy flares, very unique swirly bokeh and a great sharpness (providing you get lucky with your copy).
Minimum focusing distance is 0.50m, so gets you pretty nice close-ups with this lens, making it very popular for mid/close portrait shots.

IronGlass have developed  lenses to deliver the the look, feel and characteristics of Panavision C Series anamorphic lenses from the 1970s. Classic movies like Blade Runner, Star Wars, James Bond – The Spy Who Loved Me and Superman were all shot on Panavision C series lenses giving that ‘Classic Hollywood’ look we all know so well. This set of lenses is now available to buy from IronGlass.
The  lenses provides all the characteristics of these classic Panavision C series lenses, like: oval bokeh, very narrow depth of field, soft warm skin tones, blooming highlights.
The lenses are custom modified and designed by IronGlass lenses using Russian KMZ spherical lenses which have been modified with new internal coatings to the lens body, new oval fixed apperture and flare creator all inside the lens between the lens elements.
These modified lenses are spherical and let you shoot the classic anamorphic look without having to de- squeeze the anamorphic image in post production, simply add 1:2.35 aspect ratio black bars in post production.
These lenses have been developed and tested in conjunction with British Cinematographer/Director Andy Lee who is using them to shoot his new feature film.
